Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior representative said the incident made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
